Anknyta: IKEA Collaboration

Expanding an IKEA couch into a nursery for new families in small spaces.

We were invited by IKEA and designer Tom Dixon to envision new uses for IKEA’s Delaktig couch. Along with Co-designer Danielle Connelly, we innovated on the original design to produce seven items that clip into the couch's frame, which create a compact nursery for new families living in small spaces and extend the life cycle of the sofa itself.

The multi-functional station was designed to meet many different new-family needs, with space constraints top of mind. In addition to ergonomic nursing pillows, a bassinet, a changing table with storage, rounded pillow shapes, and a mobile, we also proposed alternate finish options to fit into any environment. Our redesign concept allowed for each piece to convert to a new purpose, giving them a "second life” as the baby grows.  

The design debuted in an exhibition at the 2017 Milan Furniture Fair.
